Truth be known I do not have one single favorite reptile or amphibian . Each species has its own unique quality which has had me fasinated for 32 years .

If your new to herpetoculture you will see what I mean . Remember , choose wisely when picking out a herptile for a pet . Find out how big it gets and what its needs are to keep it healthy  all its life .  Trust me you and your pet will be alot happier and you will enjoy this hobby alot more .

African Spured Tortoises ( Sulcata )

A few words need to be said about this much loved but often abused tort . First of all they get huge . The average adult gets to be about 200 pounds !! Think I am full of it ? See Sulcata Reality Check on the Turtle Homes web site . And regarding abuse . Take a look at a rescue case on the Tortoise Aid site . Some of the rescues Annie has delt with just about had me in tears when I first went to her site . You will see what I mean . Our shelled  friends do not deserve such treatment . Thank God folks like Annie are out there to help .

Remember if you want a sulcata  make sure you find out EVERYTHING about them .

P.S.     THEY DO NOT HIBERNATE !!!!!!!!!!
